  • A Few Words from Principal Laprade

On Monday, Feb. 6  during a whole school assembly, Ryerson celebrated the Character Trait focus of Responsibility: making good choices independently while caring about our self, others, our school and environment.  Students from each homeroom class were recognized for exemplary responsible behavior. Both girls' and boys' volleyball teams were recognized for their accomplishments and effort, as well as their representation of our school.  We are very proud of them.  It was a bonus to celebrate a tournament win for each team! Mrs. Barrow and Mrs.Teixeira were also recognized for all that they do daily, to keep our school running smoothly.  Recognition and thanks were expressed to the Green Team for their environmental initiatives of Sweater Day and the monitoring of the recycling program.

At this same assembly, February's Character Trait was launched. Friendship: being kind, caring and inclusive - treating others the way we like to be treated. Mrs. Volpe's Grade One class introduced us to the meaning of friendship through singing a friendship song.   We were all invited to sing along together.

Feb. 14 was a great day to celebrate our Tribes friendships in our colour groups. Classes gathered in the gym, participated in a friendship cheer and then moved into their colour Tribes groups.  While in these groups, our students were introduced to the meaning of Pink Shirt Day by Gr. 5 & 6 students from Ryerson's Leadership team. The activities that followed this discussion were the creation of beaded friendship bracelets and posters/slogans about friendship and Pink Shirt Day.

Since this assembly, staff and students are watching for students demonstrating evidence of friendship in order to award Road Runner Recognition slips.
