  • A Few Words from Principal Laprade

Ryerson Character Trait Focus (Cooperation to Citizenship)

Our focus for April has shifted from Cooperation: working together, helping each other, teamwork, sharing and caring and being there for each other to Citizenship: active participation and representation of our school through positive actions. On April 4th we celebrated and officially recognized students from each class who demonstrated exemplary qualities of cooperation, with certificates. Mrs. O'Halloran's Gr. 3 class shared many examples of acts of citizenship:

    ● Respect others ● Don’t be a bystander, be an upstander ● Clean up after yourself ● Tell the truth ● Put your trash in the right bin ● Be friends with everyone at school ● Help animals ● Call for help when someone is in trouble ● Treat others the way you want to be treated ● Pick up trash ● Help an elder by carrying groceries ● Plant trees instead of cutting them down ● Use your manners (Please, Thank you...)

We also recognized the efforts of several groups who have represented our school as upstanding citizens: The Battle of The Books Team (Mrs. Roberts and Mrs. Bernier), Basketball Teams (Mrs. O., Mr. Harrison, Mr. Landreville, Ms. Orefi) and Kaitlin A. for her outstanding accomplishments at various speech competitions beyond our school. Also, we were motivated to get jumping and pump up our hearts and our enthusiasm in anticipation of Jump Rope For Heart by doing our part as a supportive citizens of the Heart and Stroke Foundation (Mrs. Walsh). Throughout the month of April, we have been recognizing acts of citizenship through peer and staff presentations of Roadrunner Recognition certificates. Citizenship attributes are the focus of our thoughts of the day during announcements and our daily character learning. For our earth, we will exercise our citizenship through cleaning up the school grounds and planning for a tree planting event. More news about the tree to follow!
