Principal's Message

Principal’s Message 2017-2018 Ryerson Public School

“Building a Culture of Excellence ”

“Together We Are Better”

At Ryerson Public School our staff are committed to working in a spirit of mutual respect and cooperation with students and community partners, to promote a learning environment where students can achieve their full potential. We invite everyone to work together to ensure that all of our students meet success.

Almost all programs at Ryerson are based on the Ontario Curriculum, and on guidelines provided by the Halton District School Board. Assessment and evaluation of students is consistent with both Ministry and HDSB requirements. Within a collaborative community partnership, we are committed to providing a safe and secure environment, to enable all of our students to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, physically, and culturally.

Developing student literacy and numeracy skills is the focus of our programs. However, skills cannot be attained in isolation. We are part of a learning community that provides a safe and secure environment fostering character traits, such as respect and responsibility, while improving student achievement. Each day brings new challenges and opportunities for all of us, and together we become better for these experiences. We believe that fostering a growth mindset fosters a positive learning environment and assists students to accomplish their goals.  We also believe that all students will do well if they can.

Welcoming and supporting parents/guardians to take an active role in their child's learning is a key role of school staff.  Together, we will make your child's years at Ryerson successful.

At Ryerson Public School, we have high expectations for student behaviour and achievement. Our staff works collaboratively with each other, our students, and our parents. We work hard to help students feel comfortable, and show them that we care about them as individuals.  Everyone at Ryerson has the responsibility of showing respect for one another as well as oneself through both their words and actions.

Once again, we invite all parents to work closely with us throughout the year. A positive partnership between school and home is key for the success of our students. Please do not hesitate to contact the school (905-632-1766) should you have any questions or concerns.

Work hard! Be nice! Do your best! Believe in yourself!

Sincere regards,

Mrs. D. Laprade

    Hot Weather Plan at Ryerson

Excessive heat and humidity triggers Hot Weather Plan @ Ryerson:
-limit activity and go to shaded areas under trees, during recess
    -drink plenty of water
-keep blinds shut from direct sunlight
-open windows if there is a breeze, and humidex is not excessive
-go outside if it is cooler than inside
-keep as many heat-generating appliances and fixtures off while maintaining safety
-shut off computers and projectors when not in use
-increase air movement with the use of fans
-if air conditioning is present in some areas of the building, consider cycling classes through these areas
-reschedule physical activities and slow down the pace of physical activities as appropriate
    -avoid activities in direct sunlight

    Class Building for September 2018

This process will take place in June by Administration and teachers with consideration of student learning styles, gender balance, instructional groupings (peer compatibility and strengths/needs based on report card data and learning skills). Our goal is to create balanced learning groups. Our staff know our students very well and will make thoughtful decisions within the class structures generated by our school population.  If parents/guardians wish to make a specific request or emphasize a student’s learning environment or learning need, they are invited to send Mrs. Laprade, Principal, an email @  by May 31st.

Please note:  all requests will be considered along with all other relevant criteria. This is not an opportunity to request teachers as class organizations can change right up to the first day of classes, as teachers may change assignments or move from the school.  If your family is planning to move out of the Ryerson area before the start of the next school year, please inform our office staff as soon as possible.
