Final words from Principal Laprade

"It takes a village to raise a child."  Many thanks for your contributions to our Ryerson Village.  Family support and engagement in a child's education is key.  One last thank you to School Council for being the parent voice of our school community and for all of their initiatives - what a dedicated and hard working group.

As I retire, I hold all of my Ryerson memories close - not because this was my last school, but because Ryerson is such a special school community . Thank you to all, who have welcomed me and supported my work here.

Ms. Tracey Pulford, Ryerson's new Principal, has been at the school several times this week making her transition to the school.  She has asked that I share her email, in case you should need to reach her, before school contact information is updated.  pulfordt@hdsb.ca

Best regards for a safe and enjoyable summer!

Mrs. D. Laprade

New Principal for Ryerson

As many of you are aware, Mrs. Laprade is retiring at the end of June. At this week’s Board Meeting it was determined that, Ms. J. Paziuk has been recalled to the Ministry and released from the previous appointment to Ryerson, for September.  Ms. Tracey Pullford has been appointed as Ryerson’s next Principal.  She was here at Ryerson today for a tour and met staff and students.  Mrs. Laprade and Ms. Pullford are currently working together on this transition.

Class assignments for next year: *New This Year* Class assignments will be EMAILED out via our School Messenger system on Friday, August 30th.

The Jump Rope results are in - this year Ryerson raised $4535.55 for the Heart and Stroke foundation - amazing!!! Today the staff and students enjoyed the school wide incentive that they earned for raising that amount - 15 minutes of extra recess, with a Dance Party and a Bubble Party!   A good time was had by all! The fundraising 'thank you' gifts from the foundation will be distributed to students who earned them early next week. Thanks again to the Ryerson Community for supporting our Jump Rope for Heart event this year!

Medication/Epipen pick up/drop off-  Parents of students who have medication, epipens, or inhalers stored in the office should arrange to pick them up during the last day of school (or let us know if you would like them sent home with your child). Epi-pens, inhalers, etc. for NEXT YEAR can be dropped off to the school beginning August 26th.

Lost & Found:  Stop in to check out the lost & found. Unclaimed items will be donated to charity.

Principal’s Blog:

  • Character Trait assembly will celebrate Optimism and Mrs. LaRiviere’s Gr. 2 class will introduce Courage as our new learning focus for June.  Courage: the ability to do something that is challenging or frightening. The ability to find strength in the face of a challenge.

  • As the weather is warming and we are seeing the sun more often, you are reminded to apply sunscreen at home and provide appropriate footwear for active participation at recess and in the gym.  Flip flops, crocs and sandals create safety concerns and restrict participation.

  • Calling all volunteers!  We appreciate everything that you do for Ryerson.  Please join us to be recognized on June 10th.

Tick Awareness

posted May 31, 2019, 7:51 AM by Genevieve Brassard

Attention: Ryerson Families

Below is information for your reference, from the Halton Region.

Warm Weather and Tick Precautions

The warm weather brings an increase in the activity level of adult ticks across Halton Region. Information from the Halton Region website provides recommendations for anyone taking part in outdoor activities in wooded areas or fields with long grassy areas, in order to minimize and detect exposure to ticks.

Wear:

  • light-coloured clothing, so it’s easier to see ticks

  • closed-toed shoes

  • long-sleeved shirts

  • long pants, tucked into your socks

After being outdoors, check for ticks on yourself and your children. Look:

  • behind your knees

  • on your head

  • in your belly button

  • in your groin area

  • in your underarm area

  • on the back of your body – use a mirror, or ask someone to check for you

Should you find a tick on you or your child, please follow these steps to remove and submit the tick to Halton Region for testing.

For further information about ticks in the area, and how you can limit exposure to ticks near your home, please visit the Halton Region website.

Save the date! Family STEM Night is May 14th. Watch for a flyer coming home next week.

At Wednesday’s Character Trait Assembly, staff performed ‘We Are The Champions’ and Mrs. Laprade had blue hair for the day! We celebrated and recognized student achievements of Integrity (Integrity is: doing the right thing even when no one is watching). Mr. Adams Grade ¾ class introduced May’s trait Optimism (Optimism is: finding the positive and believing the best in any situation).

Jr. Intramural Basketball has wrapped up. Big thanks to Mr. Landreville, Mrs. Halkett-Rischke, Mr. Adams and Ms. Craik for leading this event and keeping many students very active and engaged.

Congratulations once again to Sophia L., who will be recognized at the HDSB Student of Excellence evening on May 9th. We are proud to have Sophia represent Ryerson at this event.

Jump Rope for Heart is officially underway! Pledge packages were sent home this week. Staff and students are looking forward to a month of fun and fitness, culminating with a school wide Jump event on May 31st. Thanks in advance for supporting our school’s participation in this Heart and Stroke fundraiser!
